High Level Window Cleaning using Powered Access Platforms in Manchester and the North West

High Level Window Cleaning Services

High level window cleaning using mobile elevated platforms (MEWP’s) is the alternative solution when either ladders would be dangerous and in breach of health and safety legislation or where windows cannot be accessed and cleaned using water-fed poles.

The type of access equipment used on a particular job will be determined by several factors, including the height of the building, accessibility to the building, the surface around the building, the extent of the job, the duration, and how frequently the windows will need cleaning.

What is a mobile elevated platform?

Sometimes referred to as Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWP’s), they consist of a mechanical lifting system that is controlled by the operatives who are positioned in the platform cradle.

These include scissor lifts, vehicle mounted platforms, self propelled booms and trailer systems. They are designed for temporary access and can be used for working at heights of up to 90 metres.

High Level Window Cleaning – The Risks, Training and Accreditations

While working at height from a mobile elevated platform is not entirely without risk, it is considerably safer than using ladders. We always carry out a pre usage check prior to work commencing, specifically protecting against the following risks;

• Falling objects

• Falling from height, where potential causes are operator error, failure of cage protection, and tipping caused by mechanical or hydraulic failure

• Overturning cased by over-reaching, sinking and use in high winds

• Power lines

• Operator fatigue caused by exposure to weather or sun

All of our commercial window cleaners have been trained in the safe use of elevated platforms, are accredited by IPAF (The International Powered Access Federation) and have the necessary insurance to carry out work at your premises.

Before we carry out any work, comprehensive site-specific Risk Assessments & Method Statements are provided along with a full Health and Safety information pack.
